RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?
Lead acid wet batteries get sulfated when left uncharged. The sulfur in the acid sticks to the lead plates and hardens on the plates if not knocked back off by charging...so yes, you killed the battery by leaving it in an uncharged state.

RE: Amarillo, TX RV Park
Years ago, maybe 5 or so, we stayed at the A-OK camper park just off 40 exit 80 (?). We were forced to get off the road because of high winds. I took the first park I saw. This at the time was a put you money in the envelope in the envelope and slide it through the slot in the door....12 dollars at the time with Passport America discount. Hardly anyone there but the outer edge had permanent residents. We had to stay 2 days because the wind was 40 mph sustained with 55 gusts and I was being blown all over the road so safer to just stay put. It served its purpose but by far is no resort. Never felt unsafe though and it was hardly any activity of any kind. Wide open sites in a row is all it is. Hard to say if anything has changed.

RE: Not to do retirement bucket list
Gentlemen, most everything posted is spot on. Us "older" folk have done for ourselves most of our lives. I have anyway and always hated paying someone to do something I was perfectly capable of doing. NOW, the table have turned somewhat with bad knees and backs and the slow healing process of an older body I am paying others for what I used to do myself. I still do what I can when I FEEL like tackling it.
To relate this to RVing:
I am done with driving like mad to get somewhere. No more 14 hours behind the wheel
I am done with the more mechanical repair work on the rig...that goes for the truck too. I pay for axle service now. I pay for diagnosing and repair of electrical issues now. I still do the rig roof washing and inspecting though. I want to know it is sealed up.
Still love going to the festivals and putting up with the crowds.....somewhat. We try to go on the first day of a festival when it is usually a slow day. Just did the Jack Daniel BBQ competition and it was a great event.
At this stage of life I am blessed to be 'comfortable' financially and can afford to hire out the work I don't want to do. Retirement is a beautiful thing.
Stopped caring about 'doing something' every day.

RE: Robot Tolls - At My Limit!
I got one out in Utah for being in the HOV lane. Well there were 2 people in the vehicle and I was towing the trailer but I am certain I was never in the HOV lane. I ignored it. Not paying for their mistakes and dishonesty. As it is I avoid tolls like the plague and run secondary routes as much as I can, a much more pleasant drive without the usual Nascar wannabees road raging at the "old" people pulling trailers.

RE: Electrical issue.
I would open up the wiring junction box on your pin box where the trailer cord terminates. There will be a wire from the 7 pin cord with a wire for the backup lights connected to a trailer wire, likely with a wire nut. Disconnect that wire from the cord. That will at least stop the trailer from backfeeding and turning on the truck backup lights. You might even find the wire problem there. Could be the backup light wire has somehow come in contact with the 12 volt wire in that junction box.
7 pin wiring
This is exactly what I did. I saw no issue in the box to indicate the problem. At least I can get home not worrying about the power feedback. Thanks for the response though.

Electrical issue.
I went to hook up the black tank flush the other day and noticed the back-up light on. OK, obviously something charged that circuit, a worn wire or something. I plugged into the truck and the truck back-up lights came on. Great....now what? I can possibly isolate the back-up light pin and disconnect it to prevent the power feedback to the truck. I have about a 4 hour trip home from where I am at and don't want to chance some other damage if that's possible. Any suggestions on this issue? The trailer is a Keystone Laredo 334RE travel trailer.

RE: I have a disgusting problem… HELP!!!
Actually, in spite of the long trip I think I would deliver to them the personal property they left behind. Make sure you can roll it off the trailer onto their property. No good deed goes unpunished.

RE: Tampa, FL: Lazy question
Can't locate a storage lot? Good luck finding a campground for that time period too. They are likely all booked by now. You have a dilemma on your hands with no good answer.

RE: New Orleans in April 2024
We've stayed at New Orleans RV resort and marina before. It is a nice park and at the time was safe and secure. It's been a few years since we've been there so don't know how it may have changed if at all. They have a shuttle into the Quarter too if you don't want to drive and the return schedule suits you. I would stay there again.
We've also stayed on the north shore at Abita Springs RV resort and that is very nice also. It is a Coast to Coast park but I think takes non members. The drive into NOLA isn't all that bad.

As a plan B look up the Pendleton Roundup. It takes place mid-September in Pendleton Oregon.

I would look at secondary roads to go around ATL. 16 to Macon and 80 over to 20.

RE: RV Armor Roof Experiences
Had the RV Armor installed on my TT 3 years ago and it has been good. It does chalk so washing it 2 times a year is in order to keep the streaking down. Just make sure you wash and rinse the sides of your rig thoroughly after washing the roof. The installer came to me at my home and he did put it right over the TPO. No adhesion issues to date. So far the product has been very good in my opinion.

Head up to Richmond and pick up 81....it's the flattest route I see. Yes it adds time and miles but if you prefer flat there's your route.

Hair dryer on high setting. Heat it up and soften it and then use a plastic scraper to lift it off.

RE: Quadrants, rather than one big cross country trip?
Spoon, that is the area I am in. Very close to exit 424 on I-40. We moved here from Michigan 10 years ago and I will tell you it is the best place I have ever lived but that may be because of the stage of life we are in and that is retirement. You are right about the housing prices and I am thankful I was able to beat the insanity and find a nice home for a good sane price. Building is crazy around here too and finding a builder who is not 6 months or more out to start a project is difficult. Same with all the other trades. Any questions just ask.

RE: Quadrants, rather than one big cross country trip?
You bring up a very good point. I think the plan to do quadrants is a good one although I would allow 8 weeks per trip. Moving to "tennessee-ish" area? OK....I live in East Tennessee just east of Knoxville and I can be in Myrtle beach in a day. I can be in New Orleans in a day... long days, granted that. BUT the point is TN is very centrally located. For going out west yeah, that will take 3-4 overnights to get to the Grand Canyon and the National parks in Utah.
Traveling is about seeing the country. RVing is far different than flying to somewhere and renting a car for a few days and then flying back home. RVing you get to see every little town you pass through and stay a few days if you like. You are correct in that you don't want to just drive all the time, that's no fun. I do 6 hours max driving and that is between the hours of 9am and 3 pm. I miss all the rush hour traffic. I am not rushed breaking down to leave in the dark AM. I am not dog tired pulling into the next stop at 10 PM and trying to set up in the dark. The objective is to enjoy the journey.
When on the road we use the RVPARKY app to find parks along our route. It gives you all the info you need to see if it sounds like an acceptable park to stay at. We start looking about 1 in the afternoon to find a park 2 hours ahead of us. We call to see if they have a site and then secure it for our overnight if available. We have never been shut out and were forced to stay in a Walmart parking lot. We only made reservations at our destinations where we were staying more than 3 days to a week.
Flexibility is the key. The RV has wheels so you can go anywhere you want to.

RE: Best route to avoid mountains in WV
In order to miss 'mountain' roads you would have to take 81 down to I-40 over to I-75 and up to Ohio. How much time you got? Like others have said and meaning no insult learn how to use the transmission to slow your downhill roll. Ignore the people behind you. YOU and only you are responsible for the safe operation of your vehicle so what's behind you doesn't matter. If you avoid 'mountain' roads then you will never see a lot of this country.
I tried to use the lower gears D 1 2 M
They did not help, the engine revved 4500 but did not effect the 12% grade. My chassis is an F53 with the 7.3L V8 6 speed transmission.
Also the Tow Haul button does nothing. I guess I will have service look at it.
The point is you can't enter a downhill grade doing the speed limit. You have to slow down to the speed you want to be going down the grade. My trans does me just fine and I use the brakes only to slow back down to below the target speed with a firm push on the pedal and then let off. Repaat as needed. I tow with a GMC 2500 with a 6 speed tranny. I've been on some pretty good grades out west and even here in the east. Hard to guess why yours does nothing.

RE: New Forest River Wolf pup 2023 Catastrophic Failure :(
That is some introduction to travel trailer ownership. Sorry to hear of your nightmare. It does sound like that unit is going to have to be scrapped because of the mold issue. You just may want to start consulting an attorney sooner rather than later and be ready to demand you be made whole. You have a unit you can't use safely. Black mold can kill you.
Still, RVing is a great hobby. This is a big country and there is no better way to see it than in an RV. Up close and personal. Good luck with dealing with all this mess.
